Caledon Fire Station 301, 306 & 308 Construction - Geotechnical Investigation & Design

Details

Project Type:
New Building Construction

Project Description:
AllRock’s first step for the project was to obtain utility clearances for the project.
AllRock worked with Ontario Onecall and private utility companies to identify
potential underground utilities in order to avoid them during drilling. AllRock then
commenced the geotechnical boreholes program for all three fire stations.
AllRock worked closely with the civil and structural engineering team to ensure
that the geotechnical investigation obtained all the required information for them
to carry out their design, and enough information for the civil contractor to
accurately bid on construction of the work. A comprehensive geotechnical report
was provided, which included:
- Borehole logs
- Soil classification in accordance with the “Unified Soil Classification System”
- Building foundation and pavement recommendations including slab on grade
bearing capacity, settlement, pavement types, lateral earth pressures,
excavation recommendations, etc.
- Chemical analysis to determine soil sulphate content, including its effect on
subservice concrete, services/pipes
- Recommendations for excess soil management (O.Reg 153/406 - Metals and
Inorganics, BTEX/F1-F4)
AllRock also conducted In-situ Hydraulic Conductivity Tests at two fire stations
(#306 and #308) using the Guelph Permeameter Test method and provided
septic system recommendations based on the result.
A hydrogeological study was also required.
