Project Description:
AllRock Consulting Ltd was retained to complete a geotechnical investigation in Amaranth Ontario for the replacement of bridge 2 and subsequent roadway upgrades. It was determined through structural investigations that this particular bridge was in major need of repairs and needed to be replaced with a newer structure.

Given the age of the in place structure, no information was available regarding soil conditions to support the design of this bridge or roadway. A comprehensive geotechnical investigation was required to aid in this design.

Project Description:
With the new excess soil rules being implemented in January 1st, 2021 all excess soils generated on a project must be management under Ontario Regulation 406/19 under the Environmental Protection Act – On-site and Excess Soil Management.

The owner of the project awarded the excavation of the building footpring and surrounding infrastructure to an earthworks client, who was responsible for ensuring the excess soil generated on the project complies with O. Reg 406/19. The soils within the stormwater pond to be removed totalled to approximately 10,000 m3, and were to be transported and tracked off site to a suitable beneficial reuse site based on the classification of the soils.

AllRock Role
AllRock is a company that carries out geotechnical, materials and environmental testing company in Ottawa, Toronto and Newfoundland and Labrador.

AllRock was retained to perform Excess Soil Management and Environmental Soil Testing in Toronto for the soil generated during the project. Acting as the Qualified Person (QP) in Toronto, AllRock reviewed the environmental testing data from the previous Geotechnical report to Table 2.1 Excess Soil Quality Standards (ESQS) and the Table 2.1 Leachate Screening Levels (LSL). AllRock also prepared an Assessment of Past uses in Toronto in leu of a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment.

AllRock then determined a supplemental subsurface investigation was required to ensure the project met the O. Reg requirements. AllRock prepared a sampling and analysis plan and completed a test pitting investigation in order to obtain samples, to be submitted for analysis of various bulk parameters and leachate analysis. Once the environmental results were received, a soil characterization report in Toronto was prepared.

Prior to the supplemental subsurface investigation, AllRock worked in conjunction with the client to develop an excess soil management plan in Toronto, for submission to the City Environmental Professional assigned to the project. Once approved, AllRock ensured the requirements outlined in the management plan were met, including all the typical requirements of soil tracking in Ottawa and Toronto. Once the excess soil was transported and tracked to its final location, AllRock provided a final excess soil management report and provided it to the City Environmental Professional.

Project Description:
AllRock Consulting Ltd was retained to complete a geotechnical investigation in Amaranth Ontario for the replacement of bridge 2 and subsequent roadway upgrades. AllRock Consulting Ltd was selected for this project to perform a geotechnical investigation in Vaughan, Ontario for the replacement of bridge 2, including providing recommendations foundation and pavement recommendations. AllRock’s role was to ensure that the client obtained sufficient geotechnical data to complete their design, and to aid the client through the design process..

AllRock staff members were responsible for field and laboratory geotechnical testing and investigation. AllRock’s Administrative assistant first coordinated private and public utility locates. The drillers and traffic control were then coordinated and executed with AllRock’s field staff. Finally AllRock’s Geotechnical Engineer and laboratory staff completed testing and finalizing of reports. Recommendations were made for Piles to be installed and Monitored using PDA testing in

Ontario. AllRock was regularly required to make in field adjustments with changes in Geotechnical conditions. AllRock staff followed all ASTM and CSA standards and procedures during testing.

Region of Halton

Project Location:
Burlington, Ontario

Project Type:
The Region of Halton required the replacement of the Bridgeview Sewage Pumping Station, Forcemain from Plain’s Road West to Botanical Drive and replacement of a watermain on Spring Garden Road. With numerous heritage properties and sensitive infrastructure vibration monitoring and surveying was required to ensure the construction activity did not affect this infrastructure. The town of Oakville required am experienced vibration engineer in the Greater Toronto Area to carry out these services on behalf of the contractor.

With a large quantity of excess soil to be generated during construction, a excess soil qualified person (QP) in Toronto was required to ensure the contractor was compliant with the O.Reg 406/19.

AllRock Role
AllRock carries out environmental assessments, excess soil testing and vibration monitoring company in Ottawa, Toronto and Newfoundland and Labrador.

AllRock was retained to perform vibration monitoring and settlement monitoring in Ottawa for the replacement of water and sewer infrastructure. Prior to construction beginning, a vibration monitoring plan was prepared by AllRock and submitted to the Town of Oakville. A excess soil management was also required to be completed. Once approved, AllRock begun pre-construction surveys in Toronto, in order to survey all properties and infrastructure within the defined zone of influence. Baseline readings for vibration monitoring and settlement monitoring to obtain initial readings prior to construction.

Throughout the project settlement monitoring and vibration monitoring was ongoing each day, with a weekly report being generated. Vibration monitors were equipped with a remote-alert capability to notify if construction activities within the zone of influence in Toronto exceeded 5 mm/s. Throughout the project, when existing soil contamination was encountered AllRock would be required to complete environmental testing in Toronto and submit a sampling and analysis plan. Once results from the environmental laboratory were completed, AllRock would prepare a soil characterization report in Ottawa for submission to the Region.

Once construction activities concluded on the project, post-construction surveys were completed in order to get a survey of infrastructure and property to avoid future claims arising from construction activities.

Project Description:
AllRock was retained to complete a comprehensive geotechnical investigation in St. John’s, NL in support of a forcemain and trunk sewer replacement over a four (4) kilometer length in the City of St, John’s (Gould’s, NL). With the roadway showing signs of ageing, this critical stretch was in major need of rehabilitation. This stretch of roadway happens to be the main arterial route through to the Avalon’s Southern Shore, and is the main road in the Goulds.

AllRock first coordinated all underground and overhead utility clearances over the four (4) km stretch with each utility company. AllRock then subcontracted a local drilling contractor, and supervised drilling operations in the field. Once field work was successfully completed, AllRock’s role switched to laboratory soil testing and geotechnical analysis and design. In the end, AllRock provided a comprehensive Geotechnical report outlining aspects such as soil conditions, site preparation, pavement design, water control, slope recommendations etc.
Soil testing in St. John’s, as well as concrete and asphalt testing will be required for the project once construction begins.

Project Description:
AllRock was retained to complete a geotechnical investigation in
Conception Bay South, NL in support of the construction of a new structural
slab that was to support a full-size, demilitarized, Light Armour Vehicle III
replica. The LAV III Monument Program recognizes the service and
sacrifices of the Canadian Armed Forces in Afghanistan, and is the only of its
kind in Newfoundland and Labrador.
AllRock first coordinated all underground and overhead utility clearances over
the project area with the Town of Conception Bay South and private service
providers. AllRock was sub-contracted by a local drilling contractor,
and supervised drilling operations in the field. Once field work was
successfully completed, AllRock’s role switched to laboratory soil testing and
geotechnical analysis and design. In the end, AllRock provided a
comprehensive Geotechnical report in St. John's outlining aspects such as in-situ soil
and groundwater conditions, including borehole test log data, and
recommendations for design and construction of the structural slab that now
supports the LAV III Monument next to the Monument of Honour in
Remembrance Square, Conception Bay South, NL.

Project Description:
AllRock was retained to complete a
comprehensive geotechnical investigation in Guelph/Eramosa, Ontario in
support of the detailed design of the Indian Trail Road Reconstruction. The
road extends approximately 3.4km from Wellington County Road 29 to
Guelph Line (Wellington Road 44).
AllRock drew upon significant experience completing geotechnical testing in Toronto to begin working on the project. AllRock first coordinated all underground utility clearances and provided a
traffic control plan. AllRock then subcontracted a local drilling contractor, and
supervised borehole drilling operations in the field. Once field work was
successfully completed, AllRock’s role switched to laboratory soil testing in Toronto and
geotechnical analysis. A comprehensive geotechnical report was provided,
which included:
•Borehole logs
•Soil classification in accordance with the “Unified Soil Classification System”
•Pavement structure recommendations and reuse of current granular structure
•Excavation requirements and groundwater condition analysis
For this project, AllRock also completed environmental laboratory testing for excess soil testing in Toronto for the disposal of surplus soil in accordance with MECP O.Reg. 406/19 guidelines.

Highway 407 Express Toll Route

Project Description:
Highway 407 is a busy private highway, running through multiple heavily populated regions of the Greater Toronto Area. The highway sees thousands of vehicles per day travelling East and West through the City. Due to the heavy traffic, and cost implications of road closures, any construction and maintenance that is required on the highway is of the utmost importance for the owners.

The summer season is the only time that major construction and maintenance and construction can be completed, and any maintenance completed during these times must be completed with an accelerated timeline. The concrete road panels making up Highway 407 require frequent maintenance to support traffic loads. When replacing these loads, fast curing concrete must be used to reduce land closure time, and therefore, concrete testing is important to indicate when these lanes can be opened once they reach the required strength.

AllRock Role
AllRock was retained to perform Materials Engineering services and Concrete Testing in Toronto for the project, due to it’s trusted and reliable services. AllRock first reviewed the concrete mix design and engineering specifications for the project. AllRock utilized it’s experience on similar projects involving concrete air, temperature, and slump testing in Toronto and Southern Ontario in order to execute the field test portion of the project.

In the field, AllRock completed slump and air testing of the fresh concrete of each truck to ensure the mix fell within the required specifications. At pre-determined intervals, AllRock’s technician’s then took for unconfined compressive strength (UCS) samples, and let them cure as per the CSA A23.1 requirements. Once cured, the samples were transported back to AllRock’s Toronto Laboratory for laboratory measurement and testing. The concrete results were then reported by AllRock’s Concrete Engineer in Toronto to the client.

Project Description:

support of the detailed design and construction of Diana Drive. The
road extends approximately 650m long off of Highway 27.
AllRock drew upon significant experience completing geotechnical investigations in Ottawa Toronto to begin working on the project. AllRock first coordinated all underground utility clearances and provided a
traffic control plan. AllRock then subcontracted a local drilling contractor, and
supervised borehole drilling operations in the field. Once field work was
successfully completed, AllRock’s role switched to laboratory soil testing in Ottawa and
geotechnical analysis. A comprehensive geotechnical report was provided,
which included:

During construction, AllRock provided materials testing services on behalf of the owner. AllRock first completed sieve and proctor testing in Toronto to ensure compliance with the Oreg 1010. Next, AllRock completed concrete, soil and asphalt testing in Toronto to ensure compliance of materials to the Oreg's.
